Unless you drive an EV, your vehicle is equipped with an internal combustion engine. As the name indicates, this engine creates power by the process of combustion. When the mixture of fuel and air combusts, it creates an immense amount of heat — so much, in fact, that the engine would be irreparably damaged if this heat weren’t mitigated in some way. This is where the cooling system comes in. Coolant fluid is pumped through the system thanks to the water pump; as the coolant fluid moves through the coolant lines, it picks up much of the excess heat from the engine. Then, the heated coolant goes to the radiator, where it is cooled off. Once this has happened, the now-cooler coolant begins the process once more.
